A number of coordination compounds of a new ligand thiocarbamyldi-thiocarbamate (TCDTC) with Fe3+, Co2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+ ions have been synthesized. The ligand is unstable and cannot be isolated from its reaction mixture, however it readily forms air stable complexes with these metals. These compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, conductance measurements, absorption and infra-red spectra studies. The compounds (Fe(tcdtc)2Cl.H2O], [Co(tcdtc)2 (H2O)2]H2O and [Cu(tcdtc)2 (H2O)2] have an octahedral structure with tcdtc coordinating through its S1, S3 atoms forming six membered chelates. The complex [Zn(tcdtc)2] H2O has tetrahedral arrangement of ligands around the metal atom. The complexes [Co(tcdtc)2. (H2O)2]H2O and [Cu(tcdtc)2(H2O)2] show antibacterial activity against B. subtilis, V. Cholrea and E. coli wile [Fe(tcdtc)2Cl.H2O] shows very little activity against E. coli and B. subtilis. read more

The Pfeiffer effect is studied in a series of thirteen coordination compounds of cobalt (III) of type [Co(AA)3]n+ and [Co(AA)2 BB]n+ where AA and BB are 1,10-phenanthroline, 2,2'-bipyridyl, oxalate or corbonate ions, cis-[Co(bpy)2X2]+ (X = Cl or NO2-) and cis-[Co(phen)2Cl]+ ions in presence of (+)-cinchonine hydrochloride and (+)-tartaric acid. Two new chiral environment compounds i.e. (+)-ascorbic acid and (-)-lysine also induce this effect in a few complexes. The effect is used to correlate the absolute configurations of these complexes with that of standard compounds like A-K3[Co(ox)3]. read more

2-lmino-4-carbomethoxy-s-triazino[2,1-b) benzothiazoles, benzoxazoles, and thiazoles (VI), and XIII were synthesized in combination with their 4-carboxylic acid derivatives (VII) & (XIV), via the cyclization their 4-carboxylic acid derivatives (VII) & (XIV), via the cyclization reaction of their corresponding 2-guanidine salts with diethyl oxalate. Reaction of 4-carbomethoxy-s-triazines with hydrazine hydrate gave the corresponding hydrazides (VIII), from which hydrazones (IX) were prepared. Cyclization of 2-guanidine heterocyclic salts with ethyl chloroacetate afforded 2-imino-4-chloromethyl-s-triazines (V & XII) in fair yields. Some of the synthesized compounds were studied through their ir, nmr spectra. read more

By aspirating butanone into air-hydrogen flame numerous species were produced in the flame. To detect various terminal species and monitor their concentrations the gases from different parts of the flame were pumped into gas chromatograph. The major products detected by this method were light hydrocarbons, oxides of carbon, ketones, alcohols and flame gases like nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen. The variation in concentration of these species with hyd/air ratio of the flame has been checked. An attempt, based on the evidences obtained in these studies, is made to explain the unsual depression in tin absorption caused by organic solvents in air-hydrogen flame. read more

The titled compound (EPHZ) can be compared with 5:6:11:12:-tetrahydro-2:8-dimethylphenhomazine (PHZ) and 5:6:11-trihydro-2:5:12-trimethylphenhomazine (MPHZ) in its structural characteristics on coordination to several transition metals. In EPHZ both the amines are bridged through the methylene group and thus providing more room for fifth and sixth coordination. EPHZ forms bis-complexes with cobalt (II), cooper (II), mercury (II) and cadmium (II). The molecular structure of these complexes is assigned on the basis of analytical, spectroscopic, magnetic, and conductance data. The thermogravimetric studies are reported and discussed. The ligand is characterized by its mass spectra. read more

A new method, involving the use of paper electrophoresis is described for the study of equilibria in mixed ligand complex systems in solution. This method is based on the migration of a spot of a metal ion, with the complexants added in the background electrolyte (0.1M perchloric acid). The concentration of one of the complexants (NTA) is kept constant, while that of second ligand (threonine) is varied. A graph of log threonine against mobility is used to obtain information on the formation of mixed ligand complex and to calculate the stability constants.read more

The mass spectra of 1,5-diarylpent-1-yne-3,5-diones (Ia-e) is studied for the first time. The 3-chloro-4H-pyran-4-ones were obtained from the corresponding acetylenic (beta)-diketones by the action of N-chlorosuccinimide (NCS). The intermediate 4-chloro acetylenic (beta)diketones (7a, d) could be cyclized to the pyrones (9a, d), which gave 3-chloro-1-hydroxy-4-pyridones (13a, d) or isoxazole derivatives (14a, d) with hydroxylamine.read more
